Crispy Air Fryer Croutons

These crispy Air Fryer Croutons come together in minutes and taste so much better than store-bought! They’re golden, buttery, and perfectly seasoned with just a hint of garlic. Toss them on your favorite salad or soup—or snack on them straight from the container. You only need five ingredients and your air fryer. It’s that easy!

Ingredients

  • 4 cups 3/4-inch stale bread pieces
  • 2 Tablespoons melted salted butter
  • 2 Tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon granulated garlic
  • 1/4 teaspoon Morton kosher salt

Instructions

  • Toss the Bread: In a large bowl, add the bread cubes, melted butter, olive oil, granulated garlic, and salt. Toss everything together really well so all the bread cubes are coated. You can use clean hands or a big spoon.
4 cups 3/4-inch stale bread pieces, 2 Tablespoons melted salted butter, 2 Tablespoons olive oil, 1/4 teaspoon granulated garlic, 1/4 teaspoon Morton kosher salt
  • Load Air Fryer: Do not preheat the air fryer. Spread the bread cubes in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
  • Air Fry & Cool: Air fry for 8-10 minutes, shaking the basket 2-3 times while cooking. Watch closely near the end—they crisp up fast! Let the croutons cool completely in the air fryer basket or on a plate. Store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.

Notes

  • Kosher Salt: All of my recipes are tested with Morton kosher salt unless noted otherwise. It is the best salt for everyday cooking because of its size and flavor. If using table salt, the amount should be reduced. I highly recommend picking up some kosher next time you are at the store!
  • Cut Evenly: Keep the bread cubes about ¾-inch for consistent cooking.
  • Use Stale Bread: Slightly dry bread soaks up the butter/oil mixture better.
  • Don’t Overcrowd Them: Too many croutons at once lead to uneven texture.
  • Keep an Eye On Them: They can go from perfect to burnt quickly in the last few minutes.
