I definitely prefer a salty snack over a sweet one. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some dessert but chips are my weakness. They never get old.
I am really picky when it comes to store-bought tortilla chips. They never seem to taste as good as the restaurant ones. So I figured why not make my own and make them slightly healthier than traditional fried chips.
And the lime salt is my favorite part!

Ingredients
- Corn tortillas: Using corn tortillas is key. This is what most traditional fried tortilla chips are made out of. They give the perfect flavor and texture. I do not recommend flour tortillas.
- Olive oil: You can swap this for vegetable, canola, olive, or any neutral flavored oil.
Complete list of ingredients and amounts is located on the recipe card below.
Instructions
before you start
- Line your baking sheet with foil. This will help the chips get nice and crispy (compared to parchment paper) and makes clean up super easy.
Step 1: In a small bowl, mix together the lime juice and olive oil.
Step 2: Brush each tortilla with the lime oil mixture, coating them completely.
TIP – Be sure to use all of the oil mixture so that the tortillas are well coated.
Step 3: Stack the tortillas and cut them in half. Cut each half into thirds creating small triangles.
Step 4: Make the lime salt by mixing together the zest and the salt.
Step 5: Place the chips in a single layer on the baking sheet and sprinkle about half of the salt on before the chips go in the oven.
Step 6: Bake for 12-14 minutes or until golden.
TIP – The chips will continue to harden as they cool.

FAQs
I recommend storing them on the counter in a sealed bag with as little air as possible for a 2-3 days. However, they are best fresh out of the oven.
Yes. You will still get crunchy salty tortilla chips, but the lime adds a nice flavor and is subtle.
You did not bake them long enough. The good news is after they cool if you realize they are not crispy enough, put them back in the oven for a couple of minutes.
Healthy is subjective but corn tortillas typically have less calories and less ingredients compared to flour. They are also gluten free and have more fiber.
