These Homemade Tortilla Chips With Lime Salt will satisfy all of your salty snack cravings. They are so easy to make and you probably have all of the ingredients in your pantry right now. The hint of lime and flaky sea salt make these homemade tortilla chips absolutely irresistible.

I definitely prefer a salty snack over a sweet one. Don't get me wrong, I love some dessert but chips are my weakness. They never get old.
Growing up, we always had corn tortillas in the fridge. Cheese quesadillas were my go to snack or lazy dinner. If we ever wanted tortilla chips but did not have any, my mom would whip up a batch of oven baked chips and I remember liking them so much more than the bagged tortilla chips.
I am really picky about store-bought tortilla chips. They never seem to taste as good as the restaurant ones. So I figured why not make my own and make them slightly healthier than traditional fried chips.
And the lime salt is my favorite part!

What Kind of Tortillas To Use for Homemade Tortilla Chips
Short answer, corn. Long answer, keep reading.
So there are definitely recipes for chips made from flour tortillas, but this recipe is strictly meant for corn tortillas.
There are a couple of reasons why I love corn tortillas. Corn tortillas are a lot lower in calories than flour. So these chips are a great option for anyone who is watching their calorie intake. Restaurants typically use corn tortillas to make their chips so I find corn tortilla chips taste more authentic.
In general I find corn tortillas to be a little lighter and more flavorful, while flour tortillas are more bready and fluffy. I definitely love a warm homemade flour tortilla, but corn all the way for chips.

3 Simple Steps
I love a recipe that requires 5 ingredients or less and has minimal prep time and cook time. These homemade chips only take about 5 minutes to prepare and 10 minutes in the oven. Here is an overview of the steps for this recipe (of course there are more details on the recipe card below):
- Make the oil mixture and the lime salt. Two quick things before you get to the tortillas. The oil mixture that you will brush on tortilla is just lime juice and olive oil. And the lime salt? Lime zest + salt. Talk about easy prep!
- Prep the tortillas. You definitely want to brush the tortillas with the lime and oil mixture before you cut them. Then just stack all of the tortillas up and cut them at the same time. You will put on half the lime salt now and half after they come out of the oven.
- Bake. This step is definitely the easiest (as if the others were hard). Throw them in the oven and you're done. Don't forget the rest of the lime salt!

Homemade Lime Salt
This lime salt could not be easier to make. Not only does it taste incredible on these homemade tortilla chips, but I love the look of the little green specks of lime zest on the chips. After all we eat with our eyes first right?
All this magical lime salt consists of is (you guessed it) lime zest and sea salt. I love to use a flaky salt because I like how the granules are bigger.
I like to put a little bit on before they go in the oven so some of the salt can bake onto the homemade tortilla chips. I also like to finish them with a little more right when they come out of the oven. I love the way the lime salt looks on the finished chips.
